Mark Seymour, owner
Seymour Woodworking

Born in Madrid, Spain, I spent most of my childhood as an Air Force brat. After many years of traveling around the world with my parents and four siblings, our family finally settled in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. In 1977 I graduated from Portsmouth High School.

After a year and a half at the University of New Hampshire, I headed out to sea as a commercial fisherman. I credit those years of fishing with my work ethic and love of the outdoors. After returning to dry land and working in construction for awhile, I realized it was time to go back to school.

I moved out to Denver, Colorado, and started taking classes at night and working during the day. For two years I ran a sheltered work shop for retarded adults. I learned a lot working with those folks. I have always felt that I got more from them than they did from me. The personalities and abilities of that population is truly underestimated.

So with a degree in architectural drafting and an understanding that I could not sit behind a desk, I returned to the construction trade.

I moved back to New Hampshire in 1988 and started J. Mark Seymour Construction. For several years I worked with both structural and trim work. As time passed and my business grew I became more involved with custom woodwork.

With this change in focus we became a new company with a new name - Seymour Woodworking. We specialize in custom woodwork designed and constructed to the customers specific designs and needs.

Seymour Woodworking is truly a family business. I could not have come as far as I have without the help of my parents, siblings, friends and colleagues, and the love and support of my wife and children.

What began as a hobby has turned into a challenging journey into woodworking and creativity.
